Ghost of Tsushima launches exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on July 17. The current gameplay videos for the title point to it being an instant Game of the Year contender, but there’s still a lot of players who are not aware of Sucker Punch’s upcoming samurai epic.
From the looks of things, Ghost of Tsushima seems like a regular action-RPG, but many believe that the difficulty will be ramped up. Much like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and other Souls-like games, the upcoming samurai epic might have players seething with rage due to its high difficulty. Will that be the case with Sucker Punch’s forthcoming game?
“A difficult game”
In a recent interview, game director Nate Fox dove deeper into the mechanics and gameplay of the upcoming title. He has also revealed a few things that gamers should know before getting their hands on it.
In terms of combat, Fox notes that players will need to be smarter and more strategic.
“We are trying to make a grounded game in that sense, so a couple blows from the enemy will kill you,” Fox said. “We watched samurai movies, and people go down with one or two strikes, and that is embedded inside of the combat. Beating the Mongols in battle will be hard, but it’s that challenge that makes it feel alive and the victory rewarding. You can’t just run into a camp and fight 5 people at the same time, you will get overwhelmed and die.”
Aside from that, the game’s creative and art director says that one-on-one duels with expert samurai will also be a part of the game. Those, however, were not seen during the latest gameplay trailer for Ghost of Tsushima.
He notes that these battles will be difficult. For players to win, they’ll need to study their opponents meticulously to find the right openings.
Will it be too difficult?
Souls-like games are becoming more popular. Sekiro Shadows Die Twice had that difficulty level. Despite being great, the game was criticized for its accessibility features. That being said, the upcoming title might be under the same comments if it becomes too difficult.
Aside from the combat, the exploration in the game is expected to be difficult as well. Considering how players won’t have waypoint markers to guide them, getting from point A to point B will be tougher as well. Hopefully, Sucker Punch doesn’t go overboard when it comes to the game’s difficulty.
Ghost of Tsushima is arguably one of the biggest titles of 2020. Fans are excited to get their hands on this game, but it’s essential to learn more about it before they make a purchase.
