Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition is coming soon to PC, PS4, and the Xbox One. Even then, the game will have a few issues that it needs to overcome.
So far, Square Enix confirmed that Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition is a port. It will come from the Switch version of the game, which should be no problem. The game, however, will also carry the same graphical issues the Switch version has.
Switch had the superior version of Dragon Quest 11
Back in 2018, Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age came to the West. The title came out for the PC and PS4, with an expanded version for the Switch. The game is awesome, if not for a small problem: the Switch version is superior.
The 2019 Switch version for DQ11 was the best out of all versions. The game received the better full orchestral soundtrack, compared to the weaker PS4 version. The title also added quality of life features that people loved.
For starters, the game had a 2D mode that harkened to the franchise’s roots. It also has new missions, side quests, and even a cute photo mode. None of these existed on the PS4 and PC version of the game.
Now, Square is releasing the Definitive Edition, based on the top quality Switch version. Everything would be fine and dandy, if not for the details in the game’s FAQ.
Definitive Edition will carry Switch version disadvantages to port
According to the Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition FAQ, the game will be a 1:1 port. It will be a direct port of the Switch version, together with all the graphical disadvantages. It will also come at a full price of $39.99.
The game’s FAQ notes that “it’s a port of the Nintendo Switch version, so the graphics are not the same as they were for the original Dragon Quest XI for PlayStation 4”. The FAQ also promises “the resolution and frame rate are at least as good as they were for the original PlayStation 4 release.”
There is no mention of the PC version, but the problem still stands. The Switch has a graphical limitation of 1080p when docked and 720p on portable. The PS4 shouldn’t have a ton of issues, but on PC, 1080p will be problematic.
Some PC gamers have 1080p as a minimum. The average PC gamer now either has a 1440p or a 4K display. While there are no final details yet, the straight port can be an issue.
Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition now has a Steam listing. The game will be available for purchase on the holidays, starting December 4.
