Duchess Camilla is Queen’s ‘worst nightmare’ and ‘best possible hope’

Duchess Camilla is Queen's 'worst nightmare' and 'best possible hope'

Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles is among the senior royals whom the Queen can count on and she is Her Majesty’s “best possible hope.”

Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles and Queen Elizabeth II didn’t have a great start. The monarch wasn’t supportive of her relationship with Prince Charles because he was married to Princess Diana. However, things have gotten better between the Prince of Wales’ second wife and mom over time.

Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles and the Queen

Last year, Duchess Camilla took over the Rifles’ Colonel-in-Chief from Prince Philip, who retired in 2017 and passed away in April.

Camilla is one of the senior royals who have been helping the Queen, Express reported. The monarch took a break in the past weeks as advised by her doctors. Prince Charles and Camilla stepped up on behalf of Her Majesty.

“Camilla Parker Bowles, I think, must be both the Queen’s worst nightmare as a future Princess of Wales, and of course her best possible hope,” royal historian David Starkey said in an unearthed documentary Prince Edward & Sophie Rhys-Jones: The True Story, as per Express. “If only Charles had got to her first. Camilla is the obvious Windsor wife.”

However, royals fans know that Queen Elizabeth II and Camilla Parker Bowles had a turbulent history. It even came to a point when Prince Charles had to ask his mother to be friendly to Camilla.

In Tom Bower’s book, Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, the author said the Queen “actively disapproved” of Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship.

There was also a time when the future king approached his mother, but she allegedly had drunk several martinis and called Camilla a “wicked woman.” Her Majesty also reportedly said she wanted “nothing to do” with the Duchess of Cornwall.

Years after Princess Diana passed away, Prince Charles married Camilla. On their wedding day, the Queen welcomed Camilla to the family, acknowledging her support and love for the Prince of Wales.

Camilla is the perfect Windsor wife

Speaking in the documentary, Starkey said Camilla Parker Bowles was the perfect wife for Prince Charles. Unlike Princess Diana, Duchess Camilla was a good fit for the royal mold.

According to him, Windsor women are beautiful and not clothes horses. They are horsey, into headscarves and country pursuits.

“They have a certain good rough breeding about them. Camilla is the perfect Windsor wife. None of the nervousness or moodiness of Diana. But unfortunately, of course, she’s second helpings, and that’s the difficulty,” he added.
