Ed Sheeran’s longtime manager spoke about the infamous “royal duel” between the British singer and Princess Beatrice.
In 2016, rumors sparked that the Queen’s granddaughter accidentally slashed the “Thinking Out Loud” hitmaker with a sword, causing him a cut on his face.
Multiple reports cited that the incident happened at the home of the Duke of York in Royal Lodge, along with 20 other guests, including her mom, Sarah Ferguson, James Blunt, and his wife, Sofia Wellesley.
At the party, the “You’re beautiful” crooner joked about being knighted by Princess Beatrice.
The Princess of York rode with the prank and held a ceremonial sword; unfortunately, she accidentally hit the Grammy Award winner’s face, leaving him with a deep cut that needed to be stitched.
A source told The Sun at that time that the newlywed royal “misjudged the weight” of the sword, and instead of light taps on the shoulder, “she swung it back, not knowing Ed was standing right behind her.”
In addition, the insider also detailed that the blade hit the singer’s face and near his right eye.
The publication also noted that the guests were “shocked” and the situation left the royal “upset.”
Fortunately, Sheeran “played it down” and was a “perfect gentleman” and told the princess that “it was just an accident.”
Did Princess Beatrice Accidentally Hit Ed Sheeran’s Face with a Sword?
After four years, the singer’s manager, Stuart Camp, broke his silence and addressed the accident.
Although he didn’t drop any names, he revealed to The Telegraph that some advise them to “lie” about it to cover the reputation of the person involved.
“I got quite protective over that,” while adding, “Because we’ve never publicly commented on it. But certain people said, “Oh, you should lie and say it wasn’t her and say it was someone else.” I said, well, we’re not telling anyone anything. I’m not lying.”
Camp also mentioned that they never heard from “her” after the accident occurred.
Ed Sheeran’s Manager called the Royal an “Idiot”
Moreover, he also branded the culprit as an “idiot” for swinging a sword in public.
“I’m not lying, just because someone’s a f______ idiot. Because they’re thinking, yeah, I will get paralytic and take a sword off the wall. You’re just asking for trouble. You know, we’ve not heard hide nor hair from her since.”
Following Sheeran’s accident, multiple reports also noted that the multi-awarded singer-songwriter was rushed to Epsom Hospital’s A&E to receive treatment over his injury near his right eye.
