Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has now shattered its Kickstarter goals. Suikoden’s spiritual successor now has more than US$$2 million[AU$2.78 million], reaching US$1.5 million on its first day.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is now closer to its last two stretch goals. The game will get a ton of new features, including the much-beloved fishing mini-game. Eiyuden is also on pace to break the top 10 most-funded games on Kickstarter.
Eiyuden Chronicle spearheaded by two JRPG legends
Eiyuden is a brand new story coming from Yoshitaka Murayama and Junko Kawano. Murayama and Kawano were both part of the legendary Suikoden team and spearheaded the concept. Now, both legends are coming back together after 25 years to weave a brand new tale.
The story of Eiyuden Chronicle explores the continent of Allraan. The land is a diverse landscape, inhabited by several sapient species. These citizens include humans, elves, beastmen, and even desert people.
Much like JRPGs of old, the upstart Galdean Empire is trying to undermine other nations. It’s growing its vast power too fast due to its discovery of magical artifacts. These artifacts enhance existing magic and give them an advantage in combat.
Eiyuden uses a traditional six-player combat system, and it uses a 2.5D landscape. The title’s visual design is reminiscent of Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler. The PS1-era sprites are gorgeous, and players can get their band growing.
Akin to Suikoden, Eiyuden will have as many as 100 recruitable characters. Suikoden used to have 108 characters, the most out of any game in the era. In comparison, the other game with the most characters is Chrono Cross at 45.
Eiyuden shatters $1.5 million on first day
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is going strong, with $1.5 million in pledges on day one. Now, the Kickstarter project has $2 million and projects to reach all its stretch goals within the day.
The project only has a minimum goal of $500,000, but its stretch goals go as far as $2.2 million. The final goals, however, are worth every penny put in them.
At $1.5 million, players can get not only a cooking mini-game but a coveted New-Game+. At $1.8 million and $2.1 million, two more recruits come into the story, pushing to 102 recruits. The $2.2 million stretch goal is still a mystery, but fans are expecting to shatter that soon.
Eiyuden Chronicle will likely get into the top 5 most-funded gaming projects. To put it into perspective, the highest-funded games are Frosthaven and Kingdom Death. These have over $12 million in backing but had a slower pace in pledging than Eiyuden.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will be available for PC at launch. The creators promised that they would do their best to publish on all platforms when possible.
