Netflix has just released a trailer for its newest African original content, Blood & Water. The series is similar to the high-class Gossip Girl and Elite.
Netflix continues to develop its streaming library mainly through bringing diverse content into the entertainment realm. The streaming service invests in locally produced content from around the world.
Rather than promoting the agenda of Hollywood that viewers have been accustomed to for some time, Netflix prefers to go local. In the past few years, the platform has produced films and television shows ordered from distinct countries, including Spanish and French titles.
However, it appears that the platform is exploring a new and vast environment with its introduction of African titles. One of these is the mystery series Blood & Water.
Netflix delves into African original contents
Last year, Netflix pushed into African originals with its order of the South African teen series Blood & Water. The news came two months after the network announced its first African original, Queen Sono.
One of the Netflix executives stated,
“We are delighted to be investing further in African content and to partner with Nosipho and the team at Gambit Films to bring our second original series from South Africa to Netflix.”
Netflix affirmed that Blood & Water is the next step in their further investment in original African content. Moreover, the network expressed their excitement to explore more projects across the region.
TV CRITIC's NOTEBOOK. At first glance, South Africa's Blood & Water teen angst drama from Gambit Films looks like it is another rip-off from Netflix's Spanish series ELITE using The Kissing Booth's production design values:https://t.co/x8a0dvv3qh pic.twitter.com/VrMzLNMjXl

Blood & Water stars Gail Mabalane, Thabang Kamogelo Molaba, Dillon Windvogel, Arno Greeff, and Ryle De Morny among others.

Blood & Water gives off Gossip Girl and Elite vibes
Since the series is set in a prestigious private school, it is usually compared to Gossip Girl and Elite. It also features a gripping teen drama, with its view on contemporary high-school life.
Predominantly, the show delves into the issues of youth culture, whilst jam-packing it with twists that will keep viewers guessing. Blood & Water will certainly join the pantheon of shows that feature plenty of suspense, drama, and private school uniforms, just like Elite and Gossip Girl.
Blood & Water will premiere on Netflix in May 2020. Netflix has already released the show’s trailer and it is available for stream.
