Ellen DeGeneres got the moniker from comedian Kevin T. Porter in March. On his Twitter account, he called the comedian one of the meanest people alive.
According to Globe, DeGeneres is aware of the criticisms. However, she doesn’t think that she deserves them.
“Ellen insists she’s done nothing to deserve this hostility and feels like she’s being bullied,” an unnamed source said.
Last week, rumors swirled that DeGeneres has died. The hashtag #RIPEllen became trending on Twitter. The comedian’s critics posted memes and fake obituaries to mock her.
The source said that a lot of people realized that DeGeneres is not as nice as she looks like on the Ellen Show. And she has also been using her daytime talk show as a platform to poke fun on her guests or mock other celebrities.
According to the tabloid, there’s some tension between her and Paul Abdul because she replaced the singer as a judge on American Idol.
The tabloid also said that DeGeneres vowed to torpedo Caitlyn Jenner’s career after they had a misunderstanding on the Ellen Show.
Jenner shared her stand on same-sex marriage, and it was different from what Ellen DeGeneres believes in. The former Olympian said that marriage for him, marriage is just between a man and a woman. DeGeneres is married to her wife of almost eight years, Portia de Rossi.
The tabloid also accused DeGeneres of implying that Liza Minelli was a drag queen at the Oscars. But Minelli said that she wasn’t offended by the comedian’s joke.
“Ellen’s public image is a sweetie who’s nice to everyone. But off-camera, she’s phony to the core!” the source said.
Employees of DeGeneres also accused her of masking a toxic work culture with The Ellen Show’s mantra, “Be kind.”
While speaking with Buzzfeed News, the unnamed employee said that the mantra is all for show.
“I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for the show,” the former employee said.
Another person encouraged DeGeneres to become more involved with what’s going on behind the scenes. After all, there’s, reportedly, a day to day toxicity onset.
“I think the executive producers surround her and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,’ and she just believes that but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that,” the employee said.
As of late, Ellen DeGeneres has not yet responded to the criticisms.
