Ellen DeGeneres ‘shady’ for forcing ‘diplomatic’ Mariah Carey to confirm her pregnancy

Ellen DeGeneres and Mariah Carey’s interview on Ellen Show in 2008 recently made headlines again.

While speaking with Vulture, Mariah Carey said that the interview made her feel extremely uncomfortable. After all, DeGeneres forced her to confirm her pregnancy on the show.

And when she didn’t, the comedian brought a glass of champagne and forced Carey to take a sip. The singer also refused to drink the champagne, and DeGeneres concluded that this was because she’s pregnant.

During her interview, Carey said that she wasn’t ready to tell anyone because she previously suffered a miscarriage.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath. I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment,” she said.

On Perez Hilton’s podcast, the famed celebrity blogger discussed Carey and DeGeneres’ interview with co-host Chris Booker. The latter called Portia de Rossi’s wife “shady.”

According to Hilton, there was speculation that Carey was pregnant back then. As such, DeGeneres brought out champagne and asked the singer to drink it so they could celebrate Carey not being pregnant.

“That’s a funny bit. They’re like, ‘don’t ask.’ And she’s like, ‘OK, I won’t ask’ because it’s what everybody is reporting on and I want to be a part of the story so I’ll bring out some champagne. It’s definitely shady but it’s funny,” Booker said.

Hilton agreed with his co-host before calling Mariah Carey diplomatic because of the way she handled the awkward interview.

Other awkward interviews on ‘Ellen Show’

Carey isn’t the only celebrity with an awkward and controversial interview on Ellen Show. Dakota Johnson argued with DeGeneres after the latter accused her of not inviting her to her party.

The Fifty Shades of Grey star said that this wasn’t the case because she even sent DeGeneres an invitation. The funny woman refused to believe Johnson until one of her producers stepped in.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone refuse to answer Ellen DeGeneres

Years ago, DeGeneres also forced Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to confirm their relationship. Back then, the A-listers were promoting The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

DeGeneres asked the former couple what the status of their relationship but they refused to answer the question. Jamie Foxx also stepped in and urged DeGeneres to drop the topic.

Other than Mariah Carey, Johnson, Garfield, and Stone, DeGeneres has also had awkward encounters with her non-celebrity guests.
