Ellen DeGeneres show won’t be canceled amid ‘mean girl,’ toxic work culture claims

Ellen DeGeneres continues to receive criticisms but it is unlikely for her daytime program to stop airing.

According to Forbes, Ellen Show will only be canceled if people stop tuning in or if advertisers stop paying top dollar. However, it is unlikely for this to happen to Ellen DeGeneres anytime soon.

Ellen DeGeneres show national spot cost

SQAD revealed that a 30-second national spot during the Ellen Show cost $51,570 during the fourth quarter of 2019. The 30-second spot for other shows like Dr. Phil, Live! With Kelly and Ryan, and Judge Judy are much cheaper compared to DeGeneres’.

Advertisers also, reportedly, pay a premium to reach the comedian’s audience, which is largely made up of women between the ages of 25 and 54.

‘Ellen Show’ still raking in millions from advertisers

Despite the criticisms, Ellen Show continues to bring in over $35 million to Warner Bros. every year. DeGeneres, reportedly, brings home $50 million per year from the talk show alone.

Forbes estimates DeGeneres’ net worth at $330 million, which already includes her income from her production house and retail companies like PetSmart and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

The publication said that DeGeneres has maintained an image for being kind and generous. She is also a human rights advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.

Ellen DeGeneres show continues to air

At the end of the day, the advertisers are the ones that will decide what they will do with their investment. If they continue to advertise on the Ellen Show, it is unlikely for the program to stop airing.

On the other hand, advertisers may also hold DeGeneres, her staff, and the heads of Ellen Show accountable for the recent grievances aired against them.

While speaking with BuzzFeed News, ten former employees on the Ellen Show revealed that there’s a toxic work culture on set. Some of them were victims of racist remarks, while others lost their jobs while battling mental health issues.

A producer has also been telling the staff to not talk to DeGeneres whenever they see her on set. The claims supported Tom Majercak’s allegations that the comedian is cold and demeaning in person.

As of late, DeGeneres hasn’t responded to all the criticisms. But the three executive producers of Ellen Show responded to the former employees’ shocking allegations.

“For the record, the day to day responsibility of the Ellen show is completely on us. We take all of this very seriously and we realize, as many in the world are learning, that we need to do better, are committed to doing better, and we will do better,” they said.

Ellen DeGeneres is still hosting Ellen Show today.
