Ellen DeGeneres may have already apologized to her former staff and fans during the premiere of Ellen Show. However, not everyone was impressed with how the comedian handled the controversy.
New Idea dubbed the apology of Ellen DeGeneres as insincere. And a lot of people also said that her words seemed empty.
Ellen DeGeneres apology is insincere, inappropriate
One former Ellen Show staff told BuzzFeed News that DeGeneres turned her trauma into a joke. And the funny woman also made the issue about her when it’s not.
Today show host Alison Langdon also slammed Portia de Rossi’s wife’s apology.
“You could tell she wasn’t comfortable delivering it. She got the tone completely wrong. It felt like it was actually going somewhere, but then there was this slapstick moment,” she said.
Ellen DeGeneres deserves forgiveness from everyone
But Andrew Hornery, a private Sydney Columnist weighed in on DeGeneres’ apology and said that everyone should already forgive the host.
“She has now offered her third and most public apology as the scandals that have riddled her TV show since the start of the year threaten her future career. And once again DeGeneres was labeled disingenuous and her apology fake by her loudest detractors, of which there are many,” he wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald.
The columnist said that while DeGeneres may have done something wrong, the treatment that she has received makes it seems as though she’s Harvey Weinstein.
Hornery also said that he believed Ellen DeGeneres when she publicly apologized to everyone affected by the toxic work environment claims.
“Clearly she is a busy woman, so I believed her when she said: ‘I want to say I am so sorry to the people that were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show. This is The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I am Ellen DeGeneres,’” he said.
The columnist also said that DeGeneres is human and fallible just like everyone else. As such, why can’t everyone forgive her for her mistakes?
The comedian is selling her artworks
DeGeneres also made headlines this week after it was revealed that she’s selling $10 million worth of artwork. According to Bloomberg, she’s selling the Basquiat work and a sculpture by Alexander Calder through Sotheby’s Gallery in the Hamptons.
The sheep sculptures owned by Ellen DeGeneres are being sold for $500,000 to $1 million each.
