Ellen DeGeneres has renewed her contract for her show on NBC last year and will be staying until 2022, but one outlet claims that she will be axed once her contract is over.
Ellen DeGeneres has been subjected to various allegations in the past months. Many came forward and shared their horrible encounter with the host.
The Ellen Show has also been subjected to an internal investigation over toxic workplace complaints. However, an outlet claimed that DeGeneres is only staying until 2022 because she will be axed.
Ellen DeGeneres is only keeping show until 2022
New Idea published a report claiming that Ellen DeGeneres is quitting The Ellen Show in 2022 once her contract ends. The outlet added that her show “is set to be axed following a deluge of allegations that she is toxic and ‘mean’ boss.”
However, Gossip Cop refuted the tabloid’s claim. First, while it’s true that the show has been subjected to an internal investigation, the employees didn’t specifically name the host as the cause of tension.
It doesn’t mean that DeGeneres has no responsibilities because the show bears her name. However, the outlet was wrong to allege that the toxic work environment was due to DeGeneres, the report added.
Gossip Cop stressed that the allegations claiming DeGeneres was a “mean” and “toxic” boss were “untrue.”
Also, its executive producer Andy Lassner said that “no one is going off the air.”
It remains unknown if DeGeneres is leaving the show after 2022. However, one thing is sure, she will be staying in the remaining years of her contract.
Ellen DeGeneres and her staff are set to shoot new episodes in September.
DeGeneres’ contract renewed in 2019
Ellen DeGeneres announced in May 2019 that she signed a new contract. At the time, there were already rumors that she was planning to quit the show. However, she set the record straight and told the people that they are stuck with her for three more years.
“[From] the beginning I said this show was going to be like a relationship,” DeGeneres said as quoted by Variety.
“We’ve been through the good, the bad, the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ phase. It’s been a lot of fun and 16 years is a pretty good run. Sometimes in a relationship, you need to take a break. But I don’t. You’re stuck with me. I just signed for three more years.”
Good for her. She must be doing something right.
