Elon Musk and Grimes just had their first baby together. But the world got confused after the CEO of SpaceX revealed the name they gave.
Elon Musk and Grimes are definitely over the moon with their newborn son. They’re so excited that it seems like they’ve given so much time coming up with his name.
The unusual moniker
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, gave birth to their son on Monday, May 4. They were glad to announce the arrival of their son.
But what really made them a headliner was when Musk said they named their child X Æ A-12 Musk. The 33.6 million followers of the Tesla CEO know that he is fond of posting jokes and memes on Twitter.
So when he revealed their little boy’s moniker, many thought that it was another joke. Some even thought that it was a riddle of some sort. But it turns out that Musk is serious especially after Grimes also tweeted about it.

She tweeted a breakdown of their son’s name. She wrote that the X stands for the “unknown variable” while the Æ stands for her “elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence).”
As for the A-12, she wrote that it’s a reference to their favorite CIA aircraft which is the Lockheed A-12 or better known for its internal code name “Archangel.”
It didn’t really give any enlightenment though. In fact, it only made people more confused and more comments poured in. Some replied with hilarious memes while others tried to decode it.
One tweet even almost convinced people that the name is pronounced as Kyle. But there was someone who guessed it as X Ash Archangel which Musk liked on Twitter.

How to pronounce the name?
On Thursday, Musk guested on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast wherein he finally clarified the pronunciation of the moniker they gave to their son. It turns out that it’s the same as the one he liked on Twitter.
“It’s just X, the letter X. And then the Æ is, like, pronounced ‘ash,'” Musk told Rogan. “And then A-12 is my contribution … Archangel-12, the precursor to the SR-71, coolest plane ever.”
He also said that it was Grimes who came up with the idea of their son’s name. It’s not clear though that the moniker if its the same thing they wrote on the birth certificate.
They live in California and law says that naming a baby can only include the 26 letters of the English alphabet. So it’s most likely that Elon Musk and Grimes did not register their baby as X Æ A-12 Musk.
