Finally, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reacted to a viral deepfake video of him promoting a crypto scam.
The netizens seem to have waited for Musk to react regarding the circulating video of him, tagging him on their Twitter posts showing him the fake video.
Viral deepfake video
Yikes. Def not me.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 25, 2022
The video was made through deepfake, which uses artificial intelligence that manipulates faces and audio files.
Using deepfake editing methods on a previous video of him, the world’s richest man seems to be saying something he is not. BitVex, a bogus trading platform, was responsible for the scam.
Musk’s voice is incomprehensible in the video, making it not very convincing.
Musk’s reaction
The co-founder of the Dogecoin, Billy Markus, also commented about how miserable the deepfake was, stating that those who were stupid enough to invest in the phony crypto deserved to lose their money.
He also added that the scammers deserve to spend their life in jail. The appearance of Elon Musk in the deepfake video may be the first of many scams in the future.
Musk and Dogecoin
Elon Musk has often highlighted Dogecoin, the 11th-largest cryptocurrency with a market value of $11 billion, on Twitter. However, musk spent most of 2020 and 2021 inflating and increasing the value of the money he created as sarcasm.
Although critics claim that the original “meme coin,” a cryptocurrency, is worthless, developers attempt to make it a legitimate payment option.
For over a year, billionaire Mark Cuban has pushed for Dogecoin to be recognized as a payment option. Finally, in March 2021, the Cuban-owned Dallas Mavericks began taking DOGE for tickets and merchandise.
Scams occur in the Bitcoin industry, particularly those that promise immense wealth on Twitter.
In March 2022, a phishing effort utilized confirmed accounts to steal over a million dollars via a fake supply of ApeCoin, a cryptocurrency of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection.
