Dogecoin fees would need to be reduced for the cryptocurrency to gain more adoption in retail purchases, Elon Musk Thursday.
The comments made by the Tesla and SpaceX founder and chief executive came as an answer to the latest update from the big boss of AMC Entertainment, the company that operates the world’s biggest cinema chain.
Musk’s interest in the meme-based crypto is no secret. As a matter of fact, he had even announced he wants to put dogecoin on the Moon.
Now, Musk had a new proposition for dogecoin, as usual, sending ripples across social media.
Elon’s Twitter clout
“Super important for Doge fees to drop to make things like buying movie tickets viable,” Musk said on Twitter.
The billionaire’s comment is an apparent reference to AMC Entertainment Holdings’ plans to accept dogecoin as payment.
After the announcement AMC will accept bitcoin, litecoin, and ether for payments, chief executive Adam Aron conducted a survey on Twitter to get the pulse of the crypto community if his company should also accept dogecoin.
“I sincerely want to hear your opinion… I hear from many on my Twitter feed that we should accept dogecoin as well. Do you think AMC should explore accepting dogecoin?”Aron said in a tweet.
Dogecoin gets some loving
To his surprise, most of his followers support his plan, calling the crypto an “obvious decision” for the American movie theater chain.
The poll closed September 22 with 140,000 respondents, with the majority voting for dogecoin.
Meanwhile, dogecoin was up 8% to $0.22, CoinDesk monitoring shows.
Shibetoshi Nakamoto, who co-created dogecoin, noted that Aron’s interest on dogecoin was a positive development not just for the “joke” coin, but for the entire crypto market as well.
Acknowledging this, Aron commented that he never thought “I would see this day.” Aron added that Musk “liked” his dogecoin Twitter survey tweet.
“If you happen to see this tweet too, Mr Musk, congratulations on Tesla and SpaceX,” Aron posted.
