After a long wait, Ubisoft has finally revealed the next game in its Assassin’s Creed franchise. That game being Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a game set in the age of Vikings.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was introduced to fans via a cinematic trailer that reveals a gist of the game’s story. Beyond that, the developers have spoken up about the title and what it could mean for the franchise in general. Here’s what we know so far.
The story will be unique and a huge focus
From the look of things, players may be reminded of God of War when seeing the next game. However, Ubisoft notes that the story of the upcoming title will be unique. In fact, the developers have even put a huge focus on it.
“[The narrative] relied on structuring story experiences in a way I haven’t seen in any game as far as I can think of–this will definitely be a unique story structure for Assassin’s Creed fans, but I would even dare say it’s quite unique for any game. I don’t think people have experienced a story in quite this way–how we present it to you, how you consume it–it’s very unique,” says Darby McDevitt in an interview.
Male and female main characters
Like in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, players will be given the option to play either as a man or a woman in the next game. It’s not yet revealed how the gender will affect the story, but in the previous Assassin’s Creed, it made some sort of impact at parts of the game.
It’s a continuation
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a continuation of Layla Hassan’s story, and it happens after the Fate of Atlantis DLC in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Beyond that, the game is said to be a summation of the franchise in general.
Build settlements
One of the unique features of the game over any other in the franchise is that in this one, players will have to rebuild a settlement and make it stronger. It’s likely that players will have to defend this settlement from attacks every once in a while, so making it better is crucial.
RPG elements
Following the success of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft is going to maintain an RPG-like structure for the next game. This means that stats and armor will be a part of the game, allowing players to cater to their character based on their preferred playstyle.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is going to be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Fans are more than eager to get their hands on this game, and more will be revealed about it as per Ubisoft.
