F9 serves as the 9th film of the Fast and Furious franchise, and its director wants more.
Director Justin Lin has a broader future for the Fast and Furious franchise after the release of F9.
After helming five films in the franchise, Director Lin is set to spearhead the team until the 11th film arrives. As the future remains unknown after that, he discussed what he wanted to see in the future installments.
In a new interview with Screen Rant, the showrunner revealed he held several conversations with the actors about their characters. After those communications, he found out that there are more stories to tell even after the movie series bid its goodbye.
“One of the things I enjoy most about making these films is the element of talking to the actors about their characters and their journey, because our cast and our world has become so big. And I can tell you 80% of our conversation, you don’t see on screen,” he said.
His recent comment reflected on what Universal Pictures revealed previously. The company already said that the franchise could exist outside its original series.
The news outlet set The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift as a perfect example. For what it’s worth, the film looked like a standalone one despite including Han and Dom’s cameos at the end of the flick.
Meanwhile, Hobbs & Shaw and Fast & Furious Spy Racers proved that spinoff films could be hit, too.
Fast & Furious in demand
The power of the franchise began in 2001 with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker as its main stars. Walker went on to lead the subsequent flicks, like Turbo-Charged Prelude and 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003.
Fans needed to wait for three long years before a new installment arrived.
The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift was released in 2006. Los Bandoleros served as the debut films of Sung Kang, Tego Calderon, and Don Omar in the franchise. The 2009 film then received follow-ups thereafter — Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, and the latest Fast and Furious 9.
The ending of the F9 hinted at Han’s future in the franchise, with people demanding more justice for him. It came after the movie offered the biggest plot twist yet by bringing back Han from the dead due to several purposes.
