Xbox head Phil Spencer noted that Fable is coming sooner than Elder Scrolls 6, and it will likely be as British as it can be.
Speaking in an interview, Phil Spencer spilled the beans on several IPs. He talked about their upcoming IP, Avowed, and brushed on the upcoming Fable. In it, he notes that, among all things, the game will come even before Elder Scrolls 6.
Spencer calls Avowed and TES “very different”
In the interview, Phil had several talking points about the Xbox as a whole. Among the details he touched on include the disaster that was the Xbox One pre-launch in 2013. He also talked about several upcoming IP for the platform.
When talking about Avowed, Phil also noted a few details about Fable. Among those is the Britishness of the entire game. He also talks about its current state within the gaming community as the Elder Scrolls killer.
“The games are very different, so maybe I struggle a little bit to say that’s our version of this: just knowing what Fergus [Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian] and the team are going off to do, but when I think about our line-up, and I think about that more core fantasy RPG setting I think Avowed’s going to be an awesome entrant there,” said Spencer.
“Fable’s never been that. Fable’s clearly […] always been a little more light-hearted and a little more British, I think I could say, and I think Playground will keep it there,” Spencer added. “Elder Scrolls 6 is further out, and when that comes out I think it’s going to be incredible.”
TES is not coming any time soon
Elder Scrolls 6 is a much-awaited title for everyone. Even then, Fable has a big following as well, and fans are more than willing to try the latter than wait. With that said, fans are also expectant of when Avowed comes out.
Avowed is building on something good, basing on its trailers. It offers the dark fantasy that Dark Souls gives fans, with the general RPG elements TES gives.
“I think Avowed just from a core fantasy based RPG, there’s going to be some distinct differences with what Elder Scrolls has done traditionally, this one obviously takes place in the Pillars [of Eternity] world and stuff, but yeah…” added Phil.
Elder Scrolls 6 is coming in 2026, which is lightyears away in internet years. Fable should come out next year at the very least, with a likely release this year. The target release window for Avowed, on the other hand, should be late next year.
