‘Fallout’ TV Series in the works by ‘Westworld’ creators

Share

Fallout is one of Bethesda’s most popular franchises, and there’s already a ton of lore behind this RPG series. It’s just fitting for there to be a Fallout TV series as the games have enough twists and turns to make it a great show.

In a surprise announcement, Bethesda revealed that a Fallout TV show is in the works. This is great news for fans of the franchise. The series has been on a slump as of late with Fallout 76 and the mixed reception of Fallout 4, so this upcoming show might be its saving grace.

Who’s working on it?

The show was teased with a 23-second clip from the official Twitter account of Fallout. It didn’t say much other than “Please Stand By.” Still, the 23-second clip was enough to excite fans for what’s to come.

The show will play exclusively on Amazon Prime, and it’s being worked on by Amazon Studios and Kilter Films. The studio picked for the project is a perfect fit as it is the same one that brought Westworld to HBO.

Westworld is a hit dystopian series by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. It’s going to be exciting to see how they bring their flair to the Fallout TV series. Since Fallout is set in a post-nuclear world, Kilter Films might not have issues adapting to the new setting for the show.

It’s also worth noting that Bethesda Game Studios’ own Todd Howard will work as the executive producer on the show. We can at least confirm that a person who knows the franchise in and out will work on the TV series, which bodes good news for fans.

Todd Howard and others speak up

Todd Howard recently talked about the project, saying that he’s very excited about it. He also notes that he spoke to Nolan and Joy years ago, meaning that the project has been in the works for quite a while now.

“Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends.” Nolan and Joy added that “we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

A Fallout TV series sounds great on paper, but games that are transitioning into films or TV has always been a bad mix. Hopefully, the show is in the right hands, and we get an adaptation that stays true to the source material while ensuring that fans of the game are able to relate to the show as well.
