‘Fifty Shades’ star Dakota Johnson directs Cold Play’s ‘Cry Cry Cry’ music video

Fifty Shades of Grey star, Dakota Johnson shares her happy experience in directing boyfriend’s music video.  The star directed Cold Play’s latest music video, Cry, Cry, Cry.

The single Cry, Cry Cry is part of the band’s album, Everyday Life. Dakota and co-director Cory Bailey shot the film at London’s Rivoli Ballroom. Furthermore, the music was choreographed by Celia Rowlson-Hall.

What is the video all about

The Cry, Cry, Cry music video was released in February before the coronavirus shutdown took place.

The music video follows the love story of two young lovers dancing in their 60s or 70s outfits. While Cold Play is singing in the background, the couple took the stage and danced all their hearts out.

A moment later, the couple changed into a more mature outfit. Their faces now seem a little older and still dancing inside the ballroom. The last part of the video showed the couple in their 60s or 70s and are still dancing.

Dakota Johnson pitched her story to the band

Dakota Johnson shared how she got the opportunity in directing her boyfriend’s music video. The actress apparently submitted her own story just like other directors would. She also defended herself that she had to work hard to get the job. She said,

“I wrote the story and pitched it to the band like every other director did, and they chose mine—not because they’re partial to me at all.”

Dakota’s meticulous attention to detail made the video alive and vibrant. Apparently, the actress attends even to the smallest detail from confetti to shoelaces. The actress shared her joy and pride saying,

“That experience was pretty dreamy.”

She also shared that she was grateful to have worked with incredible people on set.  The actress also treasured the opportunity of creating the video for her partner’s song.

Furthermore,  Johnson is very keen when it comes to completing her projects. She said,

“When I work, I’m constantly thinking about the job. It takes up so much of my brain,” she explains. “Not all of my projects are only good messages, but all of them have a little bit of something that makes me feel like it’s an okay thing to pour my heart into.”

Dakota  Johnson and Chris Martin relationship

Currently, the couple is still happy in their relationship, and have been quarantining together. The two prefer to keep their love life in private.  Martin’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow openly admired Dakota and even approves of her. Gwyneth said,

“I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it’s sort of unconventional,” Paltrow said at the time. “But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her. I always start to think of the ampersand sign — what else can you bring in, instead of being resistant to or being made insecure by? There’s so much juice in leaning in to something like that.”
