There’s no bigger success for the Final Fantasy series than Final Fantasy 7. As the reception of the remake would suggest, it seems like fans can’t get enough of Cloud and his company, and luckily, there could be more coming soon.
There’s a big rumor going around that a special assortment of games called the Final Fantasy 7: Legacy Collection will be launching for the Nintendo Switch. This collection will not feature the remake or the original game, but it does come with the spin-offs that helped the game get more attention.
Redditor sqeueenixleaker0404 is the first to speak of the rumor. He did not specifically say that the original game will be a part of the collection, but as this is a legacy collection, it could likely be included as well.
What are the current confirmed games for the rumored collection?
Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus
Dirge of Cerberus; launched for the PlayStation 2, and it featured Vincent Valentine from the original game. The story tackles what happened to Vincent after the events of the original game. His past before the events of the original game was also revisited during cutscenes.
It’s a completely different game from the original. While it did have some RPG elements, the gameplay itself was a third-person shooter, with Vincent being given the ability to transform into various monsters. Although the game didn’t get rave reviews, it was still highly appreciated by fans of the original game.
Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core
Crisis Core is one of the most successful games on the PlayStation Portable. The game itself is basically a prequel to Final Fantasy 7, and players are put into the shoes of Zack Fair, Cloud’s friend, who plays a major role in the original game as well.
As this is the prequel to the original game, Crisis Core fully explains what happened to Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth before Final Fantasy 7. The ending of the game even fully connects to the beginning of the original title.
Gameplay-wise, Crisis Core plays more like an action RPG, but a key gameplay element was a slot machine system that gave Zack access to an assortment of abilities.
Before Crisis is a mobile game that was launched exclusively in Japan. The game is a turn-based RPG featuring 2D graphics.
It is set approximately six years before the events of Final Fantasy 7. In the game, players will be put in the shoes of some familiar faces from the Turks while they are still in training.
If Final Fantasy 7: Legacy Collection does get announced soon, we’re sure that fans will be more than happy to get their hands on it. Even if it’s just those three games, they still amount to hours upon hours of gameplay already.
