The recently released Final Fantasy 7 Remake took about 50 hours to beat, but that doesn’t mean that the story of Cloud and company is over. In fact, that’s just the first part of their journey.
As explained by Sony, when the game was revealed, they will release the remake in an episodic manner. Due to the size of the game and their plans for it, they had to make it episodic as compared to the original game, which had its story spread out across three discs.
Now that the first part is released and done with, what should fans expect from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2?
Work has begun long ago
For fans worrying about the release period between the episodes of the remake, it’s worth noting that work has begun on the next entries already. In a post made by game director Tetsuya Nomura in 2019, he notes that “we’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar.”
Moreover, players shouldn’t expect a long gap between games as the groundwork for the game has been laid out already. This means now that the battle, Materia, and other mechanics are already laid out, all the developers need to work on is the story.
What’s next for the story?
While the remake does stray from the original in terms of story at some points, the core plot of Final Fantasy 7 is still followed. If that is indeed the case, then we can expect the second part to be full of surprises.
The second part of the game will not only bring Cloud and friends outside of Midgar, but it will also let them meet new allies such as Sid, Caith Sith, Yuffie, and Vincent.
The second part could also include the now historic gaming moment wherein Aerith gets killed by Sephiroth. But of course, as Square Enix is playing with the original’s story. We don’t know yet for sure if Aerith does die this time around.
How many parts are there
For now, Square is yet to say exactly how many episodes the sequel will have. If they stay true to the original title, then we can expect there to be at least three episodes. It will only be different if the developer decides to expand the story even further.
While playing the remake in episodes may seem like a bother for long-time fans, what we get in exchange for it is a longer and more refined game. Hopefully, the second part outshines the first one.
