Retiring the mangaka career
According to Anime News Network, Atsushi Ōkubo informed his readers about the status of the manga series in the author commentary.
He wrote in the 23rd volume of Fire Force that the comics is already in its final stage. This means that he is already working on ending Shinra Kusakabe’s journey as a pyrokinetic hero.
Aside from that, he also announced in the same commentary his retirement plan. He said that the manga series, also called Fire Brigade of Flames, is his last comics.
“I plan for this to be my last manga, so please accompany me until the very end,” the Soul Eater creator wrote.
He did not provide further details regarding the finale though. So it’s still to be known when exactly he will finish and until what volume the series is going to be.
Fans will have to stay updated and just watch out for the 24th volume. It is already scheduled to be released on July 17.
Season 2 of the anime adaptation
Fans shouldn’t be totally devastated though as the anime adaptation will live on. Sources reveal that Fire Force has been renewed for season 2.
Season one captured the attention of the fans throughout the 24 episodes released. So now they’re looking forward for more.
It’s said to premiere sometime in July 2020. However, there is a possibility that it will be moved to a farther date due to the pandemic. Producers have yet to provide information.
The plot of season 2 is expected to focus on the special fire brigades fighting against man-made combustion. Shinra will also start his new journey as part of the Special Fire Force Academy.
For context, the series is set in Tokyo where people are possessed by demons. They burst into flame, leading to the creation of a special firefighting team: The Fire Force. Part of the team is Shinra who is known for his “devil footprints” because he can run and ignite at the speed of a rocket.
