The Last of Us 2 is one of the biggest releases of 2020, and the game is undoubtedly one of the best games this year. Since launching almost two months back, we’ve yet to get some new content, but that could change soon.
Even before launch, fans have been asking whether there will be a multiplayer content in the game or not. Naughty Dog has said before that a multiplayer aspect for The Last of Us 2 might come eventually. Now, alleged footage of the mode has leaked online.
Factions mode comes back
The alleged footage is very grainy and hard to make out. However, from what players can see, it seems like some of the maps from the Factions mode in The Last of Us are back in this version.
As the uploader of the video says, the footage is grainy because it is still at an early build. He didn’t say when the footage was taken. If the footage was recently taken, we might have to wait for a long time before Naughty Dog officially launches the new mode.
What is Factions MP?
Introduced in the first game, Factions MP is a multiplayer mode that pits players against each other. In it, players will have to choose between playing as either the Fireflies or the Hunters. Of course, factions accrue points depending on the performance of the player.
It is one of the most popular multiplayer modes added in a primarily single-player game. It would be a great addition to The Last of Us 2. It’s going to be even more important if Naughty Dog isn’t planning to release any DLCs for the game.
In Factions MP, players fight each other in a variety of modes. Players can craft items in-game, and they can also make stealth kills. Perhaps the most significant part of the mode was the factions system, which rewarded players more if they did better.
If the mode was introduced in the sequel, it’s likely that the Hunters and the Fireflies won’t be a part of it anymore. Instead, we can expect the WLF and the Scars to fight for contention heavily.
The Last of Us 2 is a great game, but it certainly lacks in terms of replayability. Expanding the game with a multiplayer mode will keep players coming back for more. It’s a healthy way to expand the game’s replayability, and fans are hoping Naughty Dog gets it right again.
