Epic Games announced today that Fortnite: Save The World on Mac will become unplayable soon. The event is due to the current drama between Epic and Apple.
According to the game studio, Fortnite: Save The World on Mac will stop working next week. Starting September 23, it will no longer be playable on MacOS. Epic Games is ready to provide a full refund to gamers who bought the game last year.
Epic vs Apple dispute is the primary reason
Save The World is Fortnite’s PVE title that lets players see more of the world of Fortnite. It’s a great RPG title that Epic religiously supported since its launch. Now, the studio cannot provide any MacOS support due to the dispute between them and Apple.
“Apple is preventing Epic from signing games and patches for distribution on Mac, which ends our ability to develop and offer Fortnite: Save the World for the platform,” says Epic in a statement on their official website.
“Specifically, our upcoming v14.20 release will cause bugs for players on v13.40, resulting in a very poor experience. Since we are no longer able to sign updates and release fixes for these issues, beginning September 23, 2020, Fortnite: Save the World will no longer be playable on macOS.”
While Apple paused the removal of Apple ID logins from Fortnite, they can’t update any of their games. The dispute between Epic and Apple resulted in Apple disabling all of Epic’s dev accounts. Among these accounts include the one Epic uses to update Save The World.
Epic Games to provide refunds for game + V-bucks purchases
Players of Fortnite: Save The World on Mac will get a full refund of the game. The refund also includes the V-Bucks spent on Llamas, since there’s nothing available to buy. Refunds will also be automatic, so players don’t need to do anything.
“Fortnite: Battle Royale remains playable for Mac users at this time on the v13.40 build, but is no longer receiving version updates due to Apple’s actions,” says the statement. “The latest version of Fortnite: Battle Royale is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, GeForce Now, and on Android through both the Epic Games App at epicgames.com and the Samsung Galaxy Store.”
So far, nobody is winning the court drama between Epic and Apple. It’s even likely that it will draw out a little further over the next year. Two days ago, Apple responded against the new filings to restore Fortnite.
Fortnite: Save the Wold on Mac will be going away until Apple and Epic resolves their dispute. Until then, fans would have to settle for another device.
