‘Fortnite’ Season 2 extends another week, Doomsday event for season finale?

Epic Games delays Fortnite Season 2 for the second time as it announces a week extension before officially kicking on Season 3. Was the extension initiated to make way for Doomsday season finale?

The Fortnite makers recently announced that Chapter 2 Season 3 would officially commence on June 11—a week later, after its first rescheduled date, June 4.

The season extension also prompted the announcement of a live event called “The Device.” Avid players of the Battle Royale classic are quick to recognize the “one-time-only live event” as the Doomsday event—a rumor that’s been going around the online chatter lately.

The Season 3 delay

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 is actually long overdue, as many of the BR players already knew. The Season 2 finale was supposed to happen back on April 30. However, Epic Games announced that they’d be delaying the finale until June 4.

With this, the players saw a new gameplay mode emerge in-game called Party Royale. During the extended season, we saw Travis Scott perform virtually, and a trailer reveals of Christopher Nolan’s movie entitled Tenet.

For now, as players wait another week for Season 3, Epic Games did provide more content for Season 2 with the Battle Pass Challenges.

An excerpt of the Epic’s announcement reads:

Before the new Season, don’t forget to complete your Battle Pass Challenges and lock in appearance choices for Brutus, TNTina, Meowscles, Skye, Midas, and Maya. There’s still time to complete the recently-added Location Domination and Storm The Agency Challenges.

Doomsday event detail

Gamespot highlights that Epic Games is set to provide its players another huge event, marking the end of Chapter 2 Season 2. The media outlet further noted that based on the success of the Travis Scott event, The Device will likely be “more ambitious than any we’ve seen before.”

Epic Games says, “The Device” event will happen on June 6 at 2 p.m. ET. Players are then reminded to show up at least 30 minutes early to secure a spot, as space will be limited.

Accordingly, reports note that players have been intrigued by the countdown timers being dropped in-game, which hinted the possibility of a Doomsday event.

Gamesradar points out that the Doomsday event will “pave the way” for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3—making it the season finale event.

Accordingly, the event is said to bring in changes to the gameplay, most especially to the game’s Battle Royale map. In fact, the new ability to swim within the Fortnite universe hints at the big possibility of an underwater map.
