'Fortnite' Season 3 and Doomsday event will likely get delayed again

Analysts are eyeing another Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 delay as season premiere postponements become a trend in the gaming industry following the civil unrest happening in the U.S. right now.

Other gaming companies have done it, and many believe that it is only a matter before Fortnite will follow suit. Big gaming giants have been showing their support to the Black Lives Matter movement by postponing their upcoming events to let “more important voices be heard.”

Micky News previously reported that Activision has just announced its season premieres on three of its Call of Duty titles—Modern Warfare, Warzone, and CoD: Mobile.  Sony even held back its highly anticipated PlayStation 5 game announcement penned for June 4.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 getting a third delay?

It is important to note that Fortnite has been delayed twice already. The first delay was at the end of April when it was originally scheduled to make its Season 2 finale. The second announcement was just recently when its makers noted that it’d take one more week from the June 4 schedule—moving the premiere to June 11.

The second delay was reportedly due to internal issues, as its devs struggle from the work-from-home set-up. Now, Forbes notes that Epic Games might just push back further as it may ride on the current trend, throwing in the “this isn’t the time” moment.

The Device might also not explode this weekend

Not only is the Fortnite Season 3 being feared of delay, but also its supposedly big Saturday event called The Device, which is dubbed as Doomsday or the season finale event.

The “Doomsday Countdown” is said to feature the blow-up of “The Device” inside The Agency. It’ll destroy the current map causing a massive flood, leading its players to a more “into the sea” theme in Season 3.

Underwater maps hints have also suggested this theme, especially that swimming has been added as a doable skill in the game. Micky News noted a possible Spongebob crossover as its icon seems to resemble that of Bikini Bottom.

However, Forbes emphasized that the event “doesn’t seem ideal for the current moment.” As the current news shows massive property destruction across the United States, as riots continue to disrupt neighborhoods while others protest for the wrongful death of George Floyd.

Accordingly, Fortnite’s event involving a massive explosion will not be a great look for the game and most probably be welcomed with a backlash from its community.

Epic Games is yet to make an announcement about the Doomsday event’s imminent delay, and the third delay of Season 3.
