From today more than four and a half million Bitcoin.com wallet users can book and pay for travel directly through their mobile app.
California based travel agency CheapAir has partnered with the Bitcoin.com wallet to enable users to pay for flights and accommodation using cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin.com sees the move as a value add for customers and as a way to spread adoption of Bitcoin Cash, said CEO Stefan Rust.
“Bitcoin.com is really excited to spread real world BCH adoption with CheapAir. Paying for flights and hotels with Bitcoin Cash has never been easier,” he said.
The Bitcoin.com wallet app also supports Bitcoin original flavor, and users can pay with either currency.
CheapAir has been a world leader in crypto adoption and became the first online travel agency on the planet to accept Bitcoin as an alternative method of payment back in 2013.
It also supports payment in Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dash.
“We’re big fans of Bitcoin and we believe people deserve the freedom to use whatever payment methods that fit their lifestyle and values,” said Jeff Klee, CEO of CheapAir.com.
“We value our crypto customers and support their efforts to build a more diverse and evolved financial system.”
From today CheapAir is also enabling support for users of the MetaMask wallet to pay for travel using Ethereum.
MetaMask is a browser extension available for Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Brave.
Given the high cost of travel, cryptocurrency has become a popular method of payment – perhaps because it is one of the larger pools of savings for some users.
Australia’s TravelByBit also allows users to pay for flights with Bitcoin, Binance Coin, Litecoin – and has begun offering reward points paid back in Bitcoin.
Airlines will soon accept crypto payments directly
Micky reported a week ago that Norwegian Air Shuttle – one of Europe’s largest airlines – is set to begin accepting BTC payments later this year.
The development will mark the first time that a major airline has enabled its customers to purchase airfares directly using Bitcoin.
Norwegian Air Shuttle is Europe’s third-largest low-cost airline.
