Fourth Stimulus Check: Possible $2,000 payment, timeline and other details

While the third stimulus check is still being distributed, there are numerous stimulus checks that are already being proposed, and if a fourth one is passed, it will send another round of relief payments for eligible Americans who are dealing with the ill effects of the pandemic.

In an address to Congress last week, U.S. President Joe Biden said more than 85% of Americans have already received their $1,400 stimulus check. It can be recalled that the first stimulus check provided a $1,200 relief payment while the second one brought $600.

Biden, however, did not mention anything about a fourth stimulus check, and there are no legislations about it either.

How much for the fourth stimulus check?

For the next round of relief legislation, a group of lawyers has sent a letter urging the inclusion of stimulus checks, particularly for recurring payments which would mean that those eligible would get more than just a fourth stimulus compensation.

Earlier, there was a relief payment proposal suggesting $2,000 monthly payments until the COVID-19 pandemic crisis is over. During the second relief aid negotiations last summer, now-Vice President Kamala Harris threw her support behind the $2,000 recurring payment proposal.

However, with the White House still trying to rally enough lawmakers to sign the $2.25 trillion infrastructure plan, recurring stimulus payments won’t be easy to pass.

Not likely to happen?

Last January, more than 50 House Democrats sent out a letter to the Biden administration calling for the addition of recurring direct payments to the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. Just this April, another group of Democratic senators appealed to Biden for additional stimulus aid.

Although talks about monthly payments have resumed, the White House has not responded to the growing support behind additional compensation. A number of economists have also suggested that the pandemic’s worst financial woes have passed, resulting in a general sentiment that a fourth stimulus check isn’t likely to materialize.
