Frank Grillo has told Uproxx that he has no interest in either playing “The Punisher” or reprising his role as Marvel’s “Crossbones.”
Frank Grillo has notably portrayed Brock Rumlow, commonly known as Crossbones, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character is usually depicted as the adversary of Captain America and played a part in his assassination.
For the uninitiated, Grillo appeared in the films Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Frank Grillo wanted to play ‘The Punisher’
Despite his characters’ success in the aforementioned films, Grillo dreamt of playing Frank Castle, The Punisher. The actor, previously, revealed in an interview that portraying The Punisher was very much on his mind, even though he was already committed to playing Crossbones.
He told SPINOFF:
“I’ve been bombarded with people asking me about the Punisher. It’s amazing. The interesting thing is … look, my friend Chris Evans started out as the Human Torch, and then he became Captain America. So I’m going to have to follow up on this.”
Frank Grillo outgrows Marvel and superhero roles
However, in a recent interview, Frank Grillo shared that he no longer desires to play The Punisher. After being asked by Uproxx whether portraying The Punisher was still in his sight, he answered:
“That’s not in my trajectory now. It’s not where my life is taking me anymore, and my friend Jonny Bernthal did an amazing job. My life and what I want to do is much different now, and I think I’m outgrowing that whole kind-of Marvel and superhero thing.”
Grillo’s statement also means that he won’t be reprising his role, Crossbones.
