Frank Grillo has notably portrayed Brock Rumlow, commonly known as Crossbones, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character is usually depicted as the adversary of Captain America and played a part in his assassination.
For the uninitiated, Grillo appeared in the films Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Despite his characters’ success in the aforementioned films, Grillo dreamt of playing Frank Castle, The Punisher. The actor, previously, revealed in an interview that portraying The Punisher was very much on his mind, even though he was already committed to playing Crossbones.
He told SPINOFF:
“I’ve been bombarded with people asking me about the Punisher. It’s amazing. The interesting thing is … look, my friend Chris Evans started out as the Human Torch, and then he became Captain America. So I’m going to have to follow up on this.”
However, in a recent interview, Frank Grillo shared that he no longer desires to play The Punisher. After being asked by Uproxx whether portraying The Punisher was still in his sight, he answered:
“That’s not in my trajectory now. It’s not where my life is taking me anymore, and my friend Jonny Bernthal did an amazing job. My life and what I want to do is much different now, and I think I’m outgrowing that whole kind-of Marvel and superhero thing.”
Grillo’s statement also means that he won’t be reprising his role, Crossbones.
Moving away from Marvel, the actor further revealed his ongoing projects and plans for the future. He added:
“Joe and I have a really good little company in War Party, and we’re concentrating on action thrillers that are responsibly budgeted. We’re very busy, knock wood, and we’ll go down the path of creating our own material and content and having a good time.”
Moreover, Grillo shared that he is looking more toward the future and what he wants to do with his kids. According to him, he wants to make all the times he spends with his kids’ count since he is a single dad.
Frank Grillo is known for his roles in the movie’s Warrior (2011), The Grey (2012), End of Watch (2012), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). His first leading role was in the action-horror film The Purge: Anarchy (2014) as Sergeant Leo Barnes. He further reprised this role in The Purge: Election Year (2016).
Some of the notable television shows where Grillo made an appearance were in Battery Park (2000), For the People (2002–2003), The Shield (2002–2003), Prison Break (2005–2006), Blind Justice (2005), and The Kill Point (2007). Currently, he is playing Nico Tanner in the American television drama series Billions.
