‘Friends’ reunion special’s production may finally push through next month

The Friends reunion will finally push through, but the cast has to adhere to the strict guidelines for the show’s production. Jennifer Aniston and the rest of the gang will finally make a comeback 16 years after the series ended.

People behind the HBO Max reunion special imposed several rules that they all need to follow to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Although the filming will take place at Friends original set at Burbank studio in California, there will be some changes.

The guidelines everyone has to follow on the set

The show is meant to be the new streaming platform’s “crown jewel.” But it was delayed due to the global pandemic.

As they are now planning to resume the production, they are hoping it will finally push through in August. However, there will be no live audience to watch the show as the original plan.

“Everyone is really hoping production and filming can resume next month [in August],” a source told Mirror Online. “It’s full steam ahead right now, but there are going to be very strict guidelines, and that includes no live audiences.”

Sadly, it would be a big blow to the show’s big bosses as they wanted to create an “authentic atmosphere.” It’s better to be safe than sorry, as the entire cast also has to undergo coronavirus testing.

“All of the cast will be tested for Covid-19, and asked to quarantine in isolation after they’ve had the tests,” the insider continued.

The show’s possible plotline

So, what will happen to the much-awaited Friends reunion 16 years after the iconic sitcom ended? In an interview for Variety’s Actors on Actors issue, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow talked about their upcoming reunion special.

“I think it will be really fun when we finally get out and can do the reunion show,” Brad Pitt’s former wife said.

“We don’t know everything about it,” Kudrow admitted, per Radio Times.

“Oh, we don’t know anything about it,” Jennifer Aniston agreed. “I know that it’s not scripted.”

Of course, the two will be joined by other original casts, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry.

Meanwhile, LeBlanc will be reassured by the protocol as his 15-year-old daughter, Marina, has a rare brain disease dysplasia. Co-creator Marta Kauffman also revealed that if everything is already in place and they all understand the guidelines, they can make a good Friends reunion show.

Friends was initially set to be out on May 27 on HBO Max. Although they have yet to announce its new release date, they are looking forward to beginning the production in August.
