The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the cream of the crop when it comes to a flagship device. However, there are issues plaguing the device and its sibling the Galaxy Note 20.
When a flagship device comes up, users are expecting a smooth experience with no hiccups at all. But Samsung might have messed up this time and the Galaxy Note 20 series has some problems.
These problems are a hit or miss on some Note 20 devices. Luckily, there are quick fixes available to solve these issues.
That being said, here are the common Galaxy Note 20 issues and how to fix them.
1. Green tint issue
Samsung is known for its great Super AMOLED panels. It is vibrant, sharp, and produces crisp images. However, there is a problem surrounding the Note 20 panels.
Some users are experiencing a green tint on their flagship devices. It happens whenever the brightness levels go down below a certain threshold. There are instances wherein the issue is more evident when a grey background is open.
One temporary fix that users may do is to maintain a higher brightness. However, there this method eats up more battery.
Samsung is reportedly making a software fix for this issue. But there is no definite release for the update yet.
2. Edge lighting is not working properly
The latest Note devices have edge lighting that acts as a notification light. However, several users have reported that the feature does not work despite enabling all the needed settings.
Here are some quick troubleshooting options to make it work.
- Go to “Settings” and open up the “Edge Lighting” menu. Select “Choose Apps.” Check the apps where you want the edge lighting to work. The app only works with Message by default.
- Reformat the microSD card if there is one. An old microSD card has directories that are different from the Note 20 directory. This creates a conflict between the new settings.
- Check if the animation is on via the “Developer Settings.” If it is disabled, turn it on to at least 0.5x or set it back to default.
- Download the Edge Lighting+ app in the Samsung Good Lock Suite.
There are no official software updates for this issue yet. If the first three options do not work, then a third-party app might be the best option.
3. Galaxy Note 20 random restart and shutdown
There are reported instances wherein a Note 20 device instantly shutdown or reboots on its own. The issue is noticeable when using Swipe gestures.
Here are the troubleshooting steps and see if it works.
- Determine if the swipe gestures are causing the restart. If it does, then reconfigure the gestures to do a different action instead.
- It might be caused by an unknown app. One way to check it is by booting into Safe Mode. Once in and the issue is gone, it means that an app is causing the problem. Uninstall the recent apps to see if the issue goes away.
4. File for a replacement with these errors
There are issues wherein a software fix is enough. However, there are problems where it needs an outright replacement of the device.
- “Camera failed” error: This problem warrants a replacement. It occurs whenever a user tries to open the camera app. This means that the smartphone could not recognize the hardware and it is better to file a replacement from Samsung. A software update may work, but it may fail again in the future.
- LTE mode not working: Modern smartphones often switch from one connection type to another. But, there are reports where users do not switch to LTE immediately. This problem can be fixed by a restart. But, if the problem persists then document the issue and file a replacement.
- Overheating: Note 20 Exynos versions should be wary of this issue. Smartphones heat up naturally to a certain degree. But when it comes to regular usage and the device gets extremely hot, have it checked by the service center. Better yet, file for a replacement device if applicable.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the best Galaxy device today. However, sales may be hampered by these known issues. It is a shame that these devices rolled out without a proper quality check.
