The hinge on the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 is entirely different. It is based on the model used in the Galaxy Z Flip, which uses real physical hinges to fold the screen.
We’re just a few hours away from hearing more about Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2. And so far, no official hint has come from the tech giant. Thanks to leaks and rumors that keep on coming, we have ideas on what to expect.
Samsung has announced but not told us much about – and ahead of the launch, we’ve got some more official and not-so-official tidbits to share.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 official introduction
Serial tipster @MaxWinebach has posted up renders of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 2 found on the Samsung website. The image shows off the custom hinge colors that you’re going to be able to choose from if you think that the foldable phone is worth the investment.
There are four colors available for the hinge. These are the standard colors silver, gold, red and blue, though we don’t see the blue option from the image. The rumor is that these customizations will only be available direct from Samsung.
Aside from the hinge colors, Samsung also unveils some critical information about the phone. As reported by GSMArena, Samsung fully unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold2, including specs and pricing.
Along with today’s announcement, the South Korean tech giant also released a small lot of videos introducing the foldable phone. The first video is Samsung’s cheeky farewell to “flat,” referring to the current form-factor of all smartphones. “As one era ends the next one unfolds.”
This release is a great promotion for a foldable smartphone.
A few lifestyle photos were released as well. These lifestyle photos show some people modeling with their phones while not using them.
The Expected Design
The theory of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 design has not changed, concerning its predecessor. It is a mobile with a folding screen located inside, like a book. The smartphone has an external screen to use the device without unfolding it.
Metal housing will be available in two colors: Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. However, the hinge can be customized with four other different colors, which are mentioned above.
Compared to the hinge of the Galaxy Z Fold last year, the hinge on the new 2nd gen is entirely different. The hinge of the new phone is based on the model used in the Galaxy Z Flip. It uses real physical hinges to fold the screen and keep it fixed at a certain angle, in this case, from 75 to 180 degrees. It allows for up to 200,000 folds during its useful life, the company says.
