Gears Tactics developer Splash Damage announced that it is planning to create a new sci-fi IP. The developer is also pushing towards expanding its current roster.
Splash Damage is well-known for its work on several legendary IPs, including Gears Tactics, Gears 5, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Furthermore, the British studio will now try its hand on an original property.
Splash Damage announcement comes with expansion plans
In a post on their website, Splash talks about their future. They note that they are announcing, not because they have a new title, but rather looking for new devs who can help them build their new sci-fi title.
“We’re thrilled to announce that one of our current projects is a brand new game, set in an original sci-fi universe,” said the post.
“We’ve loved working with established IPs like Wolfenstein, Gears of War, and Halo over our 20-year history, but we’re eager to create another world of our own like Brink, Outcasters, and Dirty Bomb.
“But why are we announcing without a title? Well, this is a unique opportunity to join us and to have a major impact on our next IP, and help shape the future of the studio.”
The post ends with a list of roles that they are looking to add to their team. In addition, these include roles in art, design, level design, graphics programming, UI/UX, and animation.
Expansion comes after company’s acquisition by Tencent
Splash Damage’s expansion of their team comes after the acquisition of Leyou, the studio’s parent company.
Leyou came under the Tencent umbrella, with Splash coming with Warframe studio Digital Extremes. Furthermore, the sale also gave Tencent a 20% stake with Certain Affinity, a dev that contributed to several AAA titles like Call of Duty and Halo.
“We’ve always been dedicated to creating team-based games that spark friendships and build passionate communities, and we strive to work with partners who believe in that mission,” said Richard Jolly, co-founder and CEO of Splash, after their acquisition.
“In our many discussions with Tencent, it became clear that they not only believe in that mission but will do everything they can to enable and empower us to realise it. This is going to be a bold new phase for our studio, with an amazing line-up of ambitious games that deliver on what Splash Damage is all about. We couldn’t be more excited.”
Tencent has been creeping up on the US games market for a while now. Furthermore, they acquired several studios across the globe, as well as a stake in big AAA publishers like Epic Games.
