Tesla TaxiAschaffenburg, a German-based taxi company that operates a Tesla-only fleet, has announced that it is now adding dogecoin as a payment option.
The company made the announcement on Reddit and was proud to call itself the “first Taxi in Germany to accept dogecoin as a payment.”
In addition to dogecoin, it also accepts bitcoin and ethereum, but for now, it focuses more on the meme coin because of its rising value.
The taxi company reminded customers they need to install a digital wallet first before they can do a dogecoin transaction.
Where did it all start?
According to Stefan Muller, the taxi group’s owner, the idea to add dogecoin as a payment option came from his son. “My son is interested in dogecoin and has money invested in it for months,” he said.
But the next best question is, who inspired Muller’s son to venture in dogecoin? It’s no other than Tesla’s founder, Elon Musk.
Muller shared that his son was so inspired by Musk’s interests, ventures, and his “affection” for the Shiba Inu-inspired coin.
Musk has “self-appointed” himself as the champion of dogecoin, advocating it wherever he goes, and never fails to praise it on social media.
That is why Musk’s millions of followers all over the world were also attracted to the coin, which also catapulted dogecoin’s value.
And fortunately, Muller’s son was one of those Musk followers who also put their faith in the cryptocoin.
The right thing to do
The overwhelming response from Tesla TaxiAschaffenburg’s announcement has shown that the company’s customers are not only ready for another payment option but are also demanding it.
On top of that, its customers don’t have to be educated about the new payment method because even if it’s a new option, they are already familiar with the cryptocoin.
“It was a cool marketing idea for our business,” Muller said. But fortunately, his decision provided more than just a “cool” factor but a new success for his taxi venture.
