Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will take advantage of several exclusive PS5 features, with devs noting that these will integrate within the gameplay.
Sucker Punch Productions detailed the upcoming features they will release for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. In it, they justify why these features are only available on the PS5. They also explain why they’re charging for the next-gen upgrade.
Director’s Cut will include Iki Island expansion
The new Director’s Cut for Ghost of Tsushima is coming out soon, slated for an August 20 release. The game will cost $70 for PS5 while it will cost $60 for the PS4. As for new content, the Director’s Cut will offer a few more exclusives.
For starters, the game will have an Iki Island expansion that will be as big as one of the regions in-game. There’s also the inclusion of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to the title, which won’t be available on the original game.
“Thanks to the PS5’s ability to render cinematics in real-time, cutscenes in Ghost of Tsushima and on Iki Island on PS5 will now offer lip sync for Japanese voice over,” said Andrew Goldfarb, the communications manager for Sucker Punch Productions.
“We’re also happy to confirm that Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and the new Iki Island expansion will all take advantage of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in the Director’s Cut.
“There will also be enhancements to 3D audio on PS5, as well as drastically improved load times, 4K resolution options and framerates targeting 60 FPS.”
PS4 players can get it cheaper if they upgrade to PS5
Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will cost extra to get for specific consoles. For the PS4, existing Ghost of Tsushima owners need to cough up an extra $20 for a PS4 upgrade. For the PS5, players would need $30 to get an upgrade.
Those who had the game on PS4 will have it cheaper. Players can get the Director’s Cut for $10 if they upgrade from PS4 to PS5.
In an interview with Press Start, Sucker Punch creative director Jason Connell suggested the connection between story and the new features.
“The thing that I think is important for people to know is that, those features that make it so specific to the PS5, we didn’t just work on those as a generic hardware upgrade, they are fully enveloped into the Iki expansion and Jin’s experiences on Iki,” said Jason Connell.
“They were really tightly connected to one another. So that’s kind of the reason why we didn’t look at them as kind of separate. We really wanted those two to sing together. And that’s the base reason why.”
Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will be available in less than three weeks. The Iki Island content should look beautiful on next-gen.
