Gigantamax Meowth returns in ‘Sword and Shield’ Max Raid Battles

After being only available as an early purchase bonus, Gigantamax Meowth is returning to Sword and Shield until next week.

It is finally possible to capture a Gigantamax Meowth in Pokemon Sword and Shield. It is the final part of a month-long event running in the game’s Wild Area.

Pokemon Sword and Shield proposed the concept of Dynamax and Gigantamax to the long-running franchise series. The feature allows Pokemon from the Galar region to briefly transform into its giant form.

Some Pokemon can transform into unique Gigantamax forms which allows them to use strong G-Max attacks. One of the best Gigantamax Pokemon in the game is Meowth. Its Gigantamax form can cast G-Max Gold Rush which gives players a lot of money after a battle.

Gigantamax Meowth event schedule

Gigantamax Meowth will be available in Max Raid Battles starting May 25, 2020, until June 1, 2020.

Adding Gigantamax Meowth on rotation

Before players can begin hunting Meowth in Raid Battles, players must add the event to the game. Players can do this by opening Pokemon Sword and Shield’s in-game menu by clicking the X button. Players can then access the Mystery Gift option.

Once the selection is open, choose the “Get the Wild Area News” option. Doing this will update the game and add the possibility of Meowth spawning inside the Wild Area.

Finding Gigantamax Meowth

After activating the Wild News update, Meowth can now randomly spawn within Pokemon Dens inside the Wild Area. If in luck, players can run into a special den which will always generate a Meowth.

Battling tips

Before facing the featured Pokemon, players must prepare their best Fighting-type Pokemon in their team. This is because fighting moves are very effective against Meowth. Players must never use Ghost moves against Meowth since it has immunity to these attacks.

Is Meowth worth it

The honest answer is not so much. Similar to the other Pokemon featured in the month-long event, Meowth is not a very competitive Pokemon. Meowth is not effective in competitive and ranked battles.

Meowth’s base stat total is only at 290 which is too low compared to other Pokemon. The Pokemon can only excel in battle by using weak moves such as Fake Out, Fury Swipes, and Taunt.

However, Gigantamax Meowth can be really useful for players who want to complete their Pokedex and have tons of money.
