Gintama fans have a reason to celebrate as there will be two big treats coming their way. Aside from Gintama: The Final Film, there will be a new novel based on the movie and an anime coming out.
Gintama: The Final Movie will have a new novel version, which will be out on the same day as the movie’s release. Fans will again see a slew of different characters, from anime to aliens to animals and many more.
New novel adaptation
According to Epic Dope, Mirei Miyamoto will write the movie’s new novel adaptation. However, as some believe it will be the final installment, it looks like the novel doesn’t say so.
The movie’s hero himself, Gintoki Sakata, called out the producers for using this tactic to hype the film. By the looks of it, fans may see more of this lazy samurai in the future.
Anime News Network noted the movie would be based on the original manga’s finale, but it would feature new story elements.
In addition, there will also be a new anime special with a story that will have a connection with the movie. It will have an all-new plotline that fans need to see.
The original manga story
Created by Hideaki Sorachi, the original manga story has several different themes. It is science-fiction, period-drama, and comedy.
The manga series began in 2003 and ended in 2019, selling over 55 million copies. In total, Viz Media published the manga’s first 23 volumes in English.
It also inspired a number of anime series, which streams on Crunchyroll with English subtitles, and two anime movies.
The first 49 episodes of the anime series will start streaming on Hulu with a new English dub in Dember. Also, Sentai Filmworks released the said number of episodes on DVD in 2010 and 2011. However, it didn’t come with an English dub.
It also has several original video anime (OVA), event anime, two live-action films, and two live-action net spinoffs.
The story of “Gintama”
Gintama is set in the alternate-history of the late-Edo period. At the time, aliens, called “Amanto,” attacked humanity.
Edo Japan’s samurai faced these aliens to defend the Earth. However, the shogun yielded when he saw the alien’s power.
Part of his surrender was to have an unequal agreement with these creatures, banning the use of any swords in public and allowing the invaders to come to the planet. From here, Gintoki had to do something about it.
Gintama: The Final Film and its inspired novel are set to be out on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. The new anime, alternatively, will be out on Friday, Jan. 15, next year, on dTV in Japan.
