‘Gintama: The Semi-Final’ teaser drops, teasing anime’s end

DTV service dropped an official trailer for Gintama: The Semi-Final special, teasing the anime’s end.

It looks like the story of Gintoki Sakata will come to a close in Gintama: The Semi-Final. The franchise’s creator, Hideaki Sorachi, has been known for deceiving fans that the series will be ending now and then.

However, with the announcement of the final movie, it seems to be real this time.

The end of Gintama’s story

The online dTV service gave fans a glimpse of what is to come in the movie special.

It features a special opening song, titled “I Wanna Be” by SPYAIR. It also gives a glimpse of some of the funny scenes fans are about to see in the movie.

However, the teaser carefully avoids revealing any details about its plot.

According to Epic DopeGintama: The Semi-Final will be a two-part episode that will feature 20 chapters of the manga.

It will serve as the introduction to another anime movie, Gintama: The Final, which will hit the Japanese theatres earlier next month.

Viewers are about to see the exact adaptation of the original manga series finale, coupled with some new elements.

The movie will be based on the last half of the Silver soul arc, which also serves as the manga’s final arc. This may also play as the final canon of Gintama’s story.

Other “Gintama” details

The manga version of Gintama started in 2003 and ended in 2019. It has more than 55 million copies in circulation, per Anime News Network.

The series also has an anime adaptation, several OVAs, anime events, live-action movies, and live-action net spinoffs.

Its first-ever television series has 49 episodes and started streaming on Hulu with a new English dub coming this month. Sentai Filmworks, on the other hand, released it on DVD in 2010 and 2011 sans the English dub.

Gintama tells the story of the alternate history of the late Edo period. At the time, aliens called Amanto attack humanity.

Edo Japan’s samurai fight is supposed to defend the Earth, but it retreats when it learns the aliens’ immense power.

The group then makes a deal with the Martians and places a ban on carrying swords in public. The contract also has the rule that the invaders can come and go to the planet.

From here, Gintoki will enter the picture. He may be a weird samurai, but he is a freelancer who is doing odd jobs.

The first part of Gintama: The Semi-Final will be out on Jan. 15, 2021, while the second part will drop on Jan. 20, 2021, both on dTV. However, fans will first see Gintama: The Final on Jan. 8, 2021, in Japanese theaters.
