God of War director Cory Barlog is taking responsibility for the current problems with the game amidst vile abuse and negative reactions directed at his team.
In a classic case of toxic gaming community, God of War fans are attacking the game’s devs. Cory Barlog, the creative director for the game, is trying to shield his team by taking all the heat, noting that the decisions are all “on him.”
Sony dev targeted with sexist DMs
Earlier this week, publisher Sony noted that God of War Ragnarok will delay to next year, 2022. The game will now also come out for the PS4, earning the ire of some hardcore toxic fans.

every single human at the studio is there specifically because they are fucking EXCEPTIONAL at what they do. we are better because of them.
hell, I am lucky anyone is willing to lend their talent and intellect to my bullshit.
for some reason they do and I love them for it.❤️

Before, the game originally claimed to come out as a PS5 exclusive. The game also planned a 2021 release window, noting the “safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners and families.” Much like any big fanbase, the trolls started coming out of the woodwork.
Among the targeted individuals is Sony Santa Monica dev and writer Alanah Pearce. A vile DM peppered Pearce with a flurry of sexist and harassing words, implying they are blaming her for the game’s delay.
Barlog is now trying to take all the blame, sending out a number of fervent tweets to the community. In his tweets, he takes full responsibility for what happened in the game’s development.
“Every single human at the studio is there specifically because they are fucking EXCEPTIONAL at what they do,” said Barlog. “we are better because of them. Hell, I am lucky anyone is willing to lend their talent and intellect to my bullshit. For some reason they do and I love them for it.”
Sony does not want to leave PS4 base
The vile attacks coming to Cory Barlog and his dev team are wholly undeserved. The change in direction for the upcoming God of War game comes from Sony looking to expand the life cycle for the PS4.
“You can’t build a community of over 110 million PS4 owners and then just walk away from it, right? I think that’d be bad news for fans of PS4, and frankly not very good business,” said Playstation Boss Hermen Hulst.
“Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them.”
Cory Barlog and the rest of the God of War dev team are still working on the game. More news will still come out in the coming weeks.
