Sony has finally responded to the God of War: Ragnarok PS5 rumors but it’s not the answer fans would want to hear.
God of War: Ragnarok is not the official title of the game just yet. That is just the title fans assumed for the game. But the game’s title isn’t the only assumption fans made for the game. They also believed that the supposed God of War sequel will also become a PS5 exclusive just like its predecessor was for the PS4.
Sadly, this is something that Sony has not confirmed as of yet.
God of War: Ragnarok as a PS5 exclusive: to be or not to be?
God of War is easily one of the most recognizable and most successful game franchises out there. Furthermore, it has always been attached to the PlayStation platform. The most recent game, 2018’s God of War, was exclusively for the PS4.
In fact, the exclusives that came with the PS4 like Horizon Zero Dawn had helped propel the console ahead of its competition. The exclusives are truly what makes the console.
But in recent years, Sony is focusing on making games more appealing to a wider audience. For this, Sony has given the go signal for scaled-down versions of popular PS5 games. This would allow PS4 players to play them though they won’t be able to enjoy the next-gen experience offered by the PS5.
This puts a big question mark on whether or not God of War: Ragnarok will become an exclusive title for the PS5.
Dodging the question
Sony did address the issue with the future of God of War: Ragnarok on the PS5. The Telegraph asked PlayStation boss Jim Ryan to confirm whether or not God of War Ragnorak will be a PS5 exclusive.
But his answer didn’t even come close to giving fans assurance. “Sorry. I’ve got nothing about this to say today,” Jim Ryan simply said, dodging the issue altogether.
God of War: Ragnarok could be a PS5 exclusive or maybe it won’t. But what’s even less likely to happen is the game coming to other consoles. The game’s developers, Santa Monica Studios, is actually a first-party studio for Sony. Given this fact, Sony would definitely not allow any God of War titles to appear on other hardware.
God of War: Ragnarok is slated for a 2021 release. It’s predecessor, God of War, became a massive success financially and critically. So it’s understandable that Sony wants to take its time developing the game in order to follow in on its predecessor’s success.
