Golden Globes 2021 is already around the corner, “Mank” surprisingly top the lists by scoring six nominations this year.
This month, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the nominees for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony will push through on Feb. 28, 2021.
The Golden Globe Awards 2021 will make history, as it will serve as the first bi-coastal ceremony in the U.S.
Tinay Fey and Amy Poehler will be the co-hosts from New York City and Beverly Hills, California.
Aside from the award-giving body itself, several films and individuals will be making history, too, including the 2020 film Mank.
For this year, the David Fincher-directed film scored six nominations in total. For the Best Motion Picture: Drama category, it will compete with other Golden Globes 2021 nominees like The Father, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Although all other nominees deserve to get the crown, Mank is actually steps ahead of them, and this will explain how.
Why Mank Deserves to Win Best Motion Picture: Drama
Compared to other nominees, Mank remains the only flick that delivers nostalgia without bringing the cliché-like feeling.
The biographical drama movie tells the story of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and the development of the screenplay Citizen Kane.
Recreating an old story into something that would pass modern people’s tastes is truly risky, just like what everyone always says. However, David’s father, Jack, made the motion picture possible by writing the script in the 1990s – years before his passing.
Although Mank only had a limited theatrical release on Nov. 13, 2020, it immediately garnered positive acclaims from critics upon its arrival.
When it finally arrived on Netflix, people continuously showered the film with praises for its direction, cinematography, and production.
Mank cast made the movie special
Mank cast members also added more soul to the film. Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfriend, Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, Tom Pelphrey, Charles Dance, Sam Troughton, and Jamie McShane joined the team, among others.
These elements created the best combination to provide the best storyline about the golden age of Hollywood. Though it may sound old to sound, Mank showed the classy and timely side of the growing entertainment hub.
Another component that makes the film the Best Motion Picture in this prediction is the fact that they put an effort in developing a marvelous technical standpoint.
For those who have already laid their eyes on the film, they might have noticed how the screen transitions highlighted its cinematography. Although there are black and white scenes, it did not make the film less than stellar.
Instead, the story freely flowed like how the cast members smoothly exchanged dialogues.
Mank is definitely made by the top-notch people in the industry. Thus, no one could ever question why it should win at the Golden Globes 2021.
