On February 9, media outlet Ilgan Sports got a source from the drama industry that Gong Hyo Jin received an offering to take the lead role in the new Netflix original drama series Woman of Crisis (literal title).
She will be transforming into a scriptwriter who writes makjang dramas (crazy dramas with outrageous plots).
As a response to the reports, Gong Hyo Jin’s agency Management SOOP said that Gong Hyo Jin is positively reviewing the offer to take the lead in the Netflix drama series Woman of Crisis.
Once Gong Hyo Jin confirms and accepts her appearance, she will be portraying Kim Ma Ri’s role, a scriptwriter who is famous for writing makjang dramas and is called the “queen of makjang.“
She writes hit movies and the rating gold that averages over 35 percent viewership ratings. This is with her provocative storytelling, unprecedented villains, speedy development, and fascinating revenge stories.
She lives in a “heavenly class” that her dramas get confirmed to broadcast easily and program a project whenever she wants with just her name.
The new Netflix original drama series Women of Crisis is expected to have the typical elements. It will faithfully follow the makjang drama laws: such as a kind but the frustrating female lead. A second-generation chaebol who is so affectionate that he only has eyes for the heroine. Secrets behind birth are revealed at a crucial moment. And kimchi-slapping moments while still providing viewers vicarious satisfaction and catharsis by simultaneously straying away from cliches.
Scriptwriter Kim Soo Ah wrote the drama. She also worked on the Whatcha Wearin’? and I Like It Hot. Director Lee Won Suk helmed the drama series, who also directed the How to Use Guys with Secret Tips.
If she confirms the new project, it will be her first project after years since KBS 2TV’s When the Camellia Blooms and the movie The Most Ordinary Love.
