The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL has officially been phased out of Google’s store, but it will still be available from third-party sellers.
Google is entering a dangerous phase in its Pixel smartphone journey. The lineup figured to be a powerful flagship alternative a couple of years back. However, it experienced several hiccups, which brought it to where it is now. Google is struggling to find its right market amid extremely tight competition.
As such, Google has been led to discontinuing some of its latest lineups. The first one to be axed was the Pixel 3a.
Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL discontinued
Google confirmed with 9to5Google that the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4XL are sold out. The correspondence said,
“Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed sales of Pixel 4|4XL. For people who are still interested in buying Pixel 4|4XL, the product is available from some partners while supplies last. Just like all Pixel devices, Pixel 4 will continue to get software and security updates for at least 3 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US.”
Considering the normal lifespan of a flagship phone, the sudden discontinuance of the Pixel 4 and 4XL is shocking. It didn’t even wait for its successor to continue the sales process. Instead, users will be left with almost two weeks of no Google flagship smartphone to choose from. Pixel 5 is expected to be released sometime in August.
While the official store has listed the Pixel 4 and 4XL out of stock, interested customers can still go to third-party sellers.
Can the Pixel 4a save Google’s smartphone line?
This week, Google launched the Pixel 4a, and it retails at a relatively low price of AU$599. The Pixel 4a isn’t the flashiest of phones. It doesn’t have the best processor and doesn’t have a curved glass screen as well. Neither does it have a multi-camera array. Instead, it only has a single camera lens. Nonetheless, Google believes that its software is more than enough to compensate for the lack of hardware.
Also, the overall built of the Pixel 4a is made of plastic. Nothing on the phone screams premium. Be that as it may, it still is a worthy opponent of the iPhone SE. If the market accepts the Pixel 4a the same way as the SE, Google’s future may just be saved in the nick of time.
If it doesn’t, users may be seeing the last of Google’s Pixel lineup as soon as the Pixel 5 is launched.
