Google wants Samsung to use Google Assistant over Bixby

Google wants Samsung to use Google Assistant over Bixby

Google is reportedly in talks with Samsung in running Google Assistant over Bixby. The move is also done to promote Google PlayStore.

A Bloomberg report discussed that Google and Samsung are into a major deal soon. The move aims to promote Google Assistant, and Google Play Store over Samsung counterparts.

Samsung and its own ecosystem

Samsung is currently the number one Android manufacturer. The majority of Samsung devices run Android. Google created Android as open-source software and Samsung has taken advantage of it ever since.

The Korean tech company is also on top of the Android market when it comes to creating its own ecosystem. The company has produced devices such as smartphones, earbuds, and smartwatches. These devices work seamlessly with each other.

Google Assistant might be the primary digital AI of Samsung soon

As Samsung tries to enhance its ecosystem, the company created Bixby. It is their response to the Google Assistant.

The company also created its own Galaxy Store for dedicated apps. The Google Play Store and Google Assistant are available on Samsung devices.

However, Samsung is determined to put Bixby out into the market. The first step that Samsung did is to create a dedicated Bixby button.

But its implementation was not well-received. A lot of enthusiasts and Samsung users demanded to remap Bixby to Google Assistant. Samsung listened and applied it to the next generation of devices.

Google Assistant over Bixby

The American tech giant wants to take cover searches for Samsung devices. This, in turn, means that Bixby might be out of the scene soon. Unless a proper negotiation between the two companies occurs wherein both digital assistants remain.

There is a high chance that Samsung will agree though. Smartphone sales this year have been on a slump due to the pandemic.

The Korean company needs to find a way to generate revenue. Accepting this deal would provide Samsung a lot of money to continue its operations despite the sales decline.

Besides, Samsung is notorious for duplicating apps that are already part of the Google Media Suite.

The company has been criticized back then for creating its own gallery, calendar, and a lot more. These apps were then considered as bloatware and unnecessary.

As mentioned earlier, Bixby was not well-received when it first came out. Others deem the dedicated button as unnecessary if not customizable.

Google Assistant is preferred over Samsung Bixby

A lot of money involved to make this happen

Google is pushing its products on different devices. It is worth noting that the tech giant is paying Apple billions in order to be Safari’s default search engine.

It is impossible for Samsung to surrender Bixby without a huge benefit for them. This means that Google might pay a huge sum of money in order to finalize the deal with Samsung.

If ever the deal is done, it might be a win-win situation for both companies. Users want Google Assistant on Samsung devices. Google is pushing for search control.

“That’s one of the great features of the Android platform. And while we regularly talk with partners about ways to improve the user experience, we have no plans to change that,” said a Google spokesperson.

It means that Samsung will be able to satisfy its user base while earning a huge sum from Google.

However, this is at the expense of Bixby. This is also another step for Samsung in terms of research and development. The company needs to update its devices to work seamlessly with Google Assistant.
