Gorilla Glass Victus strength shown in drop test

The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protects the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Surprisingly, the latest glass protection passed controlled drop tests with flying colors.

Tech YouTuber, PhoneBuff, posted a video comparison of the Gorilla Glass Victus and the usual glass protection.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra represents the Victus. On the other hand, the iPhone 11 Pro Max most likely uses the Gorilla Glass 6 though not explicitly mentioned by Apple.

The Gorilla Glass 6 was the previous flagship protection of Corning. However, the recently developed Victus claims to offer better protection against drops.

Fortunately, PhoneBuff is present to test these claims.

Taking a hit like a champ

PhoneBuff conducted the experiment in a controlled environment. Smartphones were dropped at a height of one meter. There is a concrete slab on the floor to simulate a real-world scenario.

The first test is a one-meter drop with the backside down. Note 20 Ultra did better with a glass shatter near the camera. Meanwhile, the whole back of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is broken into several pieces.

The next round is a corner drop test. The devices are dropped at an angle to ensure that the corners hit first. Apple won the round as the Note 20 Ultra suffered dents on the corner.

Lastly, both devices are dropped screen-side down. The iPhone’s glass cracked easily.

Surprisingly, the Gorilla Glass Victus did a very great job of protecting the screen. There are minor scratches but the screen remained intact.

The bonus round increased the height to 1.45 meters. The Note 20 Ultra survived all 10 drops without breaking a sweat. All functions are working including the in-display fingerprint scanner.

The test proved that Corning did a great job in developing the Gorilla Glass Victus. The next-generation flagships will surely be more durable from now on.
