DC fans have something to look forward to in the coming days as HBO Max teases an update about a new Green Lantern project.
Rumors of a Green Lantern movie or TV show have been going on for years. But HBO Max might have just stirred the pot and set off more buzz with one Twitter post.
DC Comics announced that Green Lantern would be part of the DC FanDome event on Aug. 22, 2020, on Twitter. The post featured an image of Hal Jordan in his emerald superhero costume from the current comic series created by Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp. HBO Max replied to the post and hinted of a “Green Lantern content we might see” at the said event.
Cue me speculating wildly about what Green Lantern content we might see.

The Synder Cut connection
HBO Max is due to release the Justice League Snyder Cut in 2021. This is director Zack Snyder’s version of the 2017 film starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot.
Snyder wasn’t able to finish the movie in post-production following the death of his daughter, Autumn. But he was given the chance to complete the film he wanted following a clamor from fans and the stars themselves.

Rumor has it that Snyder planned to introduce Green Lantern in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) franchise through Justice League. He hinted in interviews that there were logos of the superhero in the original promotional materials.
Producer and director Kevin Smith also said he talked to some people who worked with Snyder on Justice League, and the storyboards included stuff about the superhero.
Actor Ryan Reynolds, who did don the emerald suit in a failed 2011 Green Lantern movie—where he met his wife, Blake Lively—has been telling people on Twitter that he heard he’s in the Snyder cut as well.
I’m not playing Hawkman in Black Adam. Although I generally do whatever the hell @TheRock tells me to do. I would however love to be in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie and I’ve heard I may already be in it? #SnyderCut

A potential TV show
But HBO Max could also be teasing an upcoming TV series, which has found its main cast. Cosmic Book News revealed that Michael Kenneth Williams would lead the still-untitled show for the streaming platform as Sinestro. This will be a spinoff story.
The leak supposedly came from fan discussion sites like 4Chan and Reddit, ahead of the DC FanDome event. It also cited James Marsden and Linda Cardellini as Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris. Jovan Adepo, on the other hand, is reportedly in the cast as well, as one of the members of Lanterns of Sector 2814.
There are speculations that HBO Max’s take on this series will take place in different timelines on Earth and outer space. Sinestro’s origin will be revealed in flashbacks, while the show might also touch on the Sinestro Corps War.
DC and Warner are saving Green Lantern for the big screen; thus, the TV series project will head in a different direction.
