‘Grey’s Anatomy’ premiere episode details
According to reports, the premiere episode for Grey’s Anatomy season 17 will be two hours long. And it will center on the coronavirus pandemic.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, cast member Giacomo Gianniotti shared details from the premiere episode. Giannotti plays the role of Dr. Andrew DeLuca in the series.
“We’re going to start the season about a month and a half [into] full COVID. It’s going to take place a little beyond where we left off in the last season. We’re not picking up right where we left off,” he said.
Details from season 16 will be included
Showrunner Kate Vernoff said that they would also include moments from where the previous season ended.
“In even the best of times, a television writer’s primary job is to know how to pivot. We are not working to protect stories we had [planned] for the end of season 16. That said, you will get to see some of the immediate moments from where we left off,” she told TV Line.
Is Chandra Wilson leaving the show?
Meanwhile, fans of the series are speculating on the possibility of Chandra Wilson quitting the series. After all, a very telling trailer was released by ABC recently.
In the clip, Wilson’s character, Dr. Bailey, is lying on a hospital bed. In another scene, she is wearing a mask on her face. Ellen Pompeo’s character, Dr. Meredith Grey, also uttered a cryptic voiceover in the teaser.
“What we’re up against now is unlike anything that came before. At times, it seems like there’s no end in sight. We won’t stop fighting, we won’t stop feeling. Because sometimes, we all need saving,” she said.
After watching the trailer, some fans couldn’t help but wonder what would happen with Dr. Bailey. It’s possible that the character will test positive for COVID-19. But it’s unlikely for Wilson to quit Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon.
But fans are understandably concerned because a lot of original cast members have already departed Grey’s Anatomy. Last season, Justin Chambers’ character, Dr. Alex Karev, his wife, Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), to be with Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl).
