Due to the pandemic, Grey’s Anatomy season 16 has been cut short. Fortunately, some of the remaining stories will be tackled in the confirmed 17th installment.
ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has been the longest-running medical-drama on Television. In a span of 15 years, the show has secured 16 seasons and constantly a powerhouse in the ratings.
It has gathered a huge fan base and received positive reviews from viewers and critics alike. Due to its popularity, even before the premiere of season 16, the 17th season has already been confirmed.
Grey’s Anatomy season 17 confirmed
Last year, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, renewed her contract for the show’s 16th and 17th run. With this at hand, it is certain that the 17th installment of Grey’s Anatomy has already been given a go-ahead.
She shared,
“The fans will dictate when the show ends. As much as we think we’re in control, we’re not.”
Pompeo also revealed that she never anticipated the show to remain on the top despite being around for a long time. Since the show is thriving and continues to rake millions of viewers, the 17th season is unlikely to be the last one.

Grey’s Anatomy season 16 cut short
Grey’s Anatomy became one of the first series to suspend production as the world was just starting to grasp the scope of the coronavirus health crisis. As a result, the long-running series was not able to film the last four episodes scheduled for season 16. Hence, the last produced episode aptly titled Put on a Happy Face served as the season 16 finale.
Fortunately, the four unproduced episodes from Season 16 will be tackled onto the show’s order for next season. Grey’s Anatomy showrunner revealed,
“1621 plays like a satisfying finale! It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year. We will resume our storytelling in Season 17.”
As of press time, it is slightly hard to diagnose what the plot of season 17 is. However, one thing is for sure, it would not be disappointing.

Grey’s Anatomy season 17: cast, release date, and trailer
Ellen Pompeo shared that she wanted to make the cast a little special by bringing the old ones back. However, given that some of them were already killed on the show, it probably won’t happen.
Moreover, a returning cast member has been recently teased by showrunner Krista Vernoff. She said,
“It’s an ongoing effort and if I can make it happen, it’ll be exciting.”
Vernoff opted not to announce which cast member she was referring to. However, fans expect that it will be either Sandra Oh (Dr. Cristina Yang), Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner), or Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery).
Every single season of Grey’s Anatomy has hit US screens in late September, but the COVID-19 outbreak has thrown a spanner in the works. This means that it might not arrive this coming September, instead airing across the pond in 2021.
With the season 17 premiere date currently up in the air due to coronavirus, fans are a long way off a trailer just yet.
