Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is one of the most anticipated movies from the MCU franchise given how Avengers: End Game concluded. As most know, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has been hinted as a potential member of the unruly misfits as they continue on their adventure.
However, a bigger question in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 lies on Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who has seemingly vanished after the epic collision between Earth’s heroes and Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) army. And since we’re talking about unknown plots, it’s not surprising that theories surrounding this angle have cropped up on discussion boards.
Memory upload
One theory, in particular, has been shot down by James Gunn. The theory suggests that Mantis (Pom Klementieff) might be able to transfer the memories of the dead Gamora to the 2014 version who defected from Thanos’ ranks. Although it’s an interesting theory, Gunn was quick to eliminate the possibility.
Starting early? We SEE them work in reverse when she fills Gamora with fear. But memories are thoughts, not emotions. She cannot read or send thoughts, only emotions. #QuarantineWatchParty #gotgvok2 ok no more questions until this evening!

So that’s that. No memory upload from Mantis to 2014 Gamora.
It’s clear that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be centered on finding the green-skinned warrior. How that’s going to take place is anyone’s guess at the moment as Gunn and Disney have been refusing to provide hints about the film’s storyline.
Most of Gamora’s story has been anchored on Thanos and his quest for the Infinity Stones. But since the franchise is beyond that, it’s unclear how the story will move forward.
A new chapter
Some of the speculations point at Disney adapting the Secret Wars plot from the comics, an assumption that holds some weight given there have been hints of it in previous MCU films. Whatever the case, it would be interesting to see how the writers maneuver the franchise from here, especially since they’re essentially dealing with a new chapter.
As for Thor, it appears that he won’t be part of the Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Or at least, his role isn’t going to be as big as initially thought.
It’s already established that Gunn has a specific ending for Quill (Chris Pratt) and his gang, a conclusion that doesn’t involve Thor. Besides, given that Thor 4 is also happening, time constraint will be a challenge for Hemsworth, who is also busy with his projects that are outside of the MCU franchise.
Regarding the release date of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Gunn said that the pandemic had not derailed the plans that have been set up for the movie. It was originally slated to hit theaters on July 2022. But since Indiana Jones took up that slot, the film may have been moved on July 2023, DigitalSpy reported.
