There is a slew of biopics recently, telling the life story of the most famous rock stars. If Guns N’ Roses’ bassist Duff McKagan has the chance to turn his life into a movie, he will choose Brad Pitt to play the role.
From the life of David Bowie to Freddie Mercury, there is a lengthy biopic film that recently hit the silver screen. Amid this new trend, will fans once again see another biopic of another equally famous rock star?
Duff McKagan on biopics and his own possible movie
In an interview with Louder Sound, Duff McKagan revealed what he thought about the recent biopic films about the most famous rock icons.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I kind of like to have my memories of those people unsullied.”
The 56-year-old multi-instrumentalist admitted that he is a huge fan of Queen. So, when he watched Rami Malek’s Bohemian Rhapsody, he revealed he could have loved it if it were only two hours of a blank screen with their iconic music.
“There were some obvious factual inaccuracies that I could have pointed out,” he said about the Bryan Singer film. “But I don’t want to be that guy.”
Duff McKagan also saw the Netflix film about Mötley Crüe, The Dirt, which he found to kind of captured the “darkness of the ‘80s Sunset Strip scene.”
“I’m going to watch the Elton John one when it comes out, and I’ve got Lords Of Chaos on my watchlist,” he continued. “But, really, I spend my whole life in rock and roll – I’d rather read a history book.”
But, if ever his music life would be turned into a film, Duff McKagan wanted Brad Pitt to play the role. “Brad Pitt. Who else?” he exclaimed. “Come on! I’m joking. I don’t know. I don’t think about stuff like that… so let’s just keep it at Brad Pitt.”

The bunch of biopics about rock stars
There are a bunch of biopics that hit the silver screen recently. Rami Malek’s portrayal of Queen’s iconic frontman, Freddie Mercury, was a big hit. Titled Bohemian Rhapsody, it came out on the big screen in 2018.
In 2019, there was a slew of film biopics based on the music world’s biggest stars. Elton John’s biopic, Rocketman, was one of the most highly-anticipated, Smooth Radio noted. Directed by Dexter Fletcher, he immortalized the iconic singer-songwriter in a movie played by Taron Egerton.
David Bowie also got his own biopic, Stardust. Johnny Flynn played the role of the late rock icon, detailing his life when he set foot in America in the 1970s.
